Entrepreneurial spirit is booming in 2026, with about a third (33%) of U.S. adults having the intention to start their businesses or side hustles, boggling 94% jump from the previous year. This upswing is typical of a resilient entrepreneur mindset that seems to continue to live in a state of emergency and has come to terms with the economic difficulties.

The younger generations, especially Gen Z at 43% intending, are the ones who most energetically push forward to achieve financial independence through technological ventures. Although there are more and more financial barriers, at the same time, 57% of the people who dream of being self-employed have the desire so strong that they are willing to begin even if the conditions are not very favorable.

Artificial intelligence tools are opening the door to everyone. A large part of the economy is informal; here, 47% made earnings from a side hustle last year, but only one in five have their side hustle registered formally. This informal surge underlines the flexibility of strategies that combine passion with pragmatic concerns.

The top priority for HR that Gartner puts special emphasis on leader development is a signal that the only way to survive is through agile, human-centered models.

Leadership that is AI, augmented, combines human judgment with tech insights, flattening structures even when the risk of burnout occurs among entrepreneurs. The ones who are willing to try these out are the ones who allow for their teams to be not only resilient but also flexible to the scale of their ventures in an unpredictable environment.
