Mohanned Kattan: Redefining Influence and Business Excellence in Saudi Arabia’s Media Industry

In many cases, your profession chooses you, while in other cases, you choose your profession. Though in some cases, you simply choose a profession that you’ve already inherited from your parents. For Mohanned Kattan, the media has never been simply a profession — it has been part of his environment since childhood.
Growing up in a family closely connected to media and academia, Kattan was exposed early to the power of communication and the responsibility that comes with influence. Observing the work and legacy of his father, Dr. Waleed Kattan, who dedicated much of his career to media and education, shaped his understanding of how ideas, narratives, and leadership can shape societies.
Today, as Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kattan Media, Mohanned Kattan stands among Saudi Arabia’s most influential media leaders, bringing more than two decades of experience across broadcasting, marketing, digital media, and strategic communications.
Under his leadership, Kattan Media has evolved into a trusted strategic partner for brands and organizations seeking to build meaningful presence and influence in a rapidly transforming Saudi media landscape.
In this exclusive conversation with The Prime Today, Influencer and Media Expert Kattan shares his perspectives on leadership, innovation, digital transformation, and the evolving role of media in Saudi Arabia’s future.
How do you personally define business excellence in today’s fast-evolving Saudi Arabian media and communications ecosystem?
Business excellence today is no longer defined only by growth or market share. It is defined by relevance, adaptability, and the ability to create lasting impact.
Saudi Arabia’s media ecosystem is evolving faster than ever before. Vision 2030 has created unprecedented opportunities for innovation, storytelling, and entrepreneurship. In such an environment, excellence means building organizations that can move with the pace of change while maintaining strategic clarity.
For me personally, business excellence is built on three pillars: clarity of vision, consistency of execution, and courage to evolve.
Many companies succeed temporarily through trends or momentum, but long-term excellence comes from discipline and strategic alignment. When a company understands its purpose, executes with precision, and remains adaptable to market shifts, it can sustain growth and create meaningful value.
In today’s Saudi media landscape, excellence also means contributing positively to the Kingdom’s broader narrative — helping brands communicate authentically and supporting the country’s transformation story.
What aspects of your leadership philosophy have most influenced the growth and direction of Kattan Media?
My leadership philosophy was shaped long before Kattan Media was founded.
Growing up in a household where media, knowledge, and communication were frequent topics of discussion exposed me early to the importance of influence and responsibility in this field. Watching my father’s work in media and academia instilled in me a deep respect for the power of communication.
Later in my career, I worked across different segments of the media industry — including radio broadcasting, marketing leadership roles, and digital media strategy. Those experiences allowed me to understand the industry from multiple angles.
When I founded Kattan Media, I was very clear about one principle: we were not building just another agency.
We were building a company that understands influence, storytelling, and brand positioning at a deeper strategic level.
Internally, our leadership philosophy focuses heavily on culture, accountability, and ownership. Talent is important, but culture sustains growth. No individual — regardless of experience or position — is bigger than the company’s values.
Empowering teams and encouraging ownership have been critical. When people feel responsible for outcomes rather than just tasks, organizations grow organically.
Leadership, in my view, is not about control — it is about alignment.
As a CEO, how do you ensure alignment between vision, execution, and long-term value creation?
Vision without structure remains an aspiration. Execution without vision becomes a routine activity. The alignment between the two comes from systems.
At Kattan Media, we operate with clear strategic planning cycles that include annual objectives, quarterly performance reviews, and measurable KPIs across departments. This ensures that everyone understands how their role contributes to the larger organizational mission.
We also place strong emphasis on communication across teams to maintain alignment between strategy and operations.
Long-term value creation is not about short-term wins. It requires building trust with clients, investing in brand equity, developing internal talent, and maintaining operational discipline.
When vision, systems, and culture are aligned, organizations can grow sustainably.
What strategic milestones have been most instrumental in positioning Kattan Media as a trusted name in the industry?
One of the most defining milestones for Kattan Media was our transition from a purely creative service provider to a strategic media and brand advisory partner.
In the early stages, our focus was on delivering high-quality creative work and building strong client relationships. As the company evolved, we expanded our capabilities to include strategic communications consulting, brand positioning, and integrated media strategies.
Another key milestone was investing in internal operational frameworks that strengthened governance, accountability, and performance measurement across the organization.
Equally important has been our involvement in academia and talent development. Contributing as a lecturer and advisor to several universities allows me to stay connected with the next generation of media professionals and entrepreneurs.
That connection between industry and education has strengthened our ability to remain forward- looking while contributing to the development of Saudi talent.
Trust in the media industry is earned through consistency — not just creativity.
How do you strike a balance between creative innovation and commercial performance in a competitive market?
Creativity without measurable impact remains artistic expression. Creativity that drives business outcomes becomes strategic value.
At Kattan Media, we believe creativity must always serve a strategic purpose. Every idea must answer three fundamental questions:
Does it strengthen the brand narrative?
Does it resonate culturally with the audience?
Does it generate measurable results?
Structure and strategy actually empower creativity rather than restrict it.
By combining storytelling with performance analytics, we ensure that innovation remains aligned with commercial objectives.
In what ways has digital transformation reshaped your business model and client engagement approach?
Digital transformation has fundamentally changed the expectations clients have of media and communications partners.
Today, clients expect transparency, real-time performance insights, and integrated multi-platform strategies.
As a result, our approach has shifted from traditional campaign-based thinking toward building comprehensive brand ecosystems.
Our engagement model now includes advanced audience segmentation, performance dashboards, data-driven content strategies, and continuous optimization across platforms.
Digital transformation is not only about adopting new technologies. It requires rethinking workflows, internal collaboration models, and decision-making processes.
The companies that succeed are those that integrate technology with strategic thinking.
How do you foster a culture that encourages creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement across teams?
Organizational culture does not develop by chance — it must be intentionally designed.
At Kattan Media, we focus on three key pillars internally: operational excellence, transparent communication, and performance accountability.
Creativity thrives in environments where people feel safe to express ideas, while accountability ensures those ideas translate into results.
Regular feedback mechanisms, structured performance reviews, and clear expectations allow our teams to continuously improve.
Recognition also plays an important role. Celebrating achievements reinforces shared ownership and motivates teams to strive for excellence.
What role do data, technology, and emerging platforms play in your decision-making process today?
Data plays an increasingly central role in strategic decision-making.
We rely on analytics, audience insights, and performance metrics to inform campaign strategies and evaluate outcomes. Emerging platforms are assessed based on their alignment with client positioning rather than simply their popularity.
Technology has also improved operational efficiency within the organization, enabling more streamlined project management and collaboration across teams.
However, while data informs decisions, leadership still requires interpretation, experience, and strategic judgment.
Technology enhances human insight — it does not replace it.
How do you assess and manage risk while pursuing growth and expansion opportunities?
Risk is an inherent part of entrepreneurship and leadership.
The key is ensuring that risks are calculated rather than being impulsive.
At Kattan Media, every growth opportunity is evaluated through three lenses: financial feasibility, operational readiness, and alignment with our brand positioning.
We avoid expansion for visibility alone. Sustainable growth must be supported by strong operational foundations and financial discipline.
Maintaining diversified client portfolios and healthy cash flow structures also allows us to remain resilient during market fluctuations.
Responsible ambition is the balance we aim to maintain.
How does Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 influence your strategic outlook and business priorities?
Vision 2030 has transformed the economic and cultural landscape of Saudi Arabia.
For the media industry, it has created new opportunities for storytelling, innovation, and global engagement.
At Kattan Media, our strategy aligns closely with the vision’s objectives — particularly in empowering Saudi talent, supporting entrepreneurial ecosystems, and helping brands communicate authentically in a rapidly changing environment.
We see ourselves not only as participants in the transformation but as contributors to it.
What differentiates Kattan Media’s value proposition for clients, partners, and stakeholders?
Our value proposition is built on three key differentiators.
First, we approach every project from a strategic perspective rather than simply executing creative campaigns.
Second, our deep cultural understanding of the Saudi market allows us to develop narratives that resonate authentically with audiences.
Third, my own professional experience across multiple sectors of the media industry allows us to provide executive-level advisory insights that extend beyond traditional agency work.
Clients trust us because we provide clarity in complex communication environments.
Looking toward 2026 and beyond, what legacy do you aspire to build as one of Saudi Arabia’s most influential business leaders?
Legacy, in my view, is not about recognition or titles. It is about impact.
My aspiration is to build an institution that outlives its founder — a company that continues to influence brands, develop leaders, and contribute to the growth of Saudi Arabia’s media industry.
If Kattan Media becomes known not only for successful campaigns but for shaping talent, strengthening organizations, and supporting the Kingdom’s transformation story, that would be a meaningful legacy.
Excellence is not a milestone.
It is a mindset that must be practiced every day.
And that mindset continues to guide everything we do at Kattan Media.
