UNLV Gets $68M State Funding for New Lee Business School, Targeting 2029 Opening

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is moving closer to building a new home for the Lee Business School after receiving a major funding boost from the state.
According to FOX5, Governor Joe Lombardo and the Nevada Legislature allocated more than $68 million toward the construction of the new business school building. UNLV said this amount covers about half of the total funding needed for the project.
New building details and location
The new Lee Business School facility will be a 130,000-square-foot building located at the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Harmon Avenue. It is expected to serve more than 4,000 business majors.
UNLV leaders said the new space is necessary to meet the current demands of business education, especially with modern learning needs that require adaptable classrooms and stronger technology support.
Chris Heavey, interim president of UNLV, said the school needs updated learning environments that are better suited to preparing students for today’s workforce.
Replacing Beam Hall, with a new purpose for the old building
The new facility will replace Beam Hall, which is currently the home of the Lee Business School. FOX5 noted that Beam Hall was also the location of a deadly shooting two years ago. The building will be repurposed once the new business school opens.
Why it matters for the local workforce
UNLV reported that it graduated a record 7,000 students in the most recent academic year. The university also expects around 80% of those graduates to remain in Southern Nevada, which adds weight to the argument that investing in UNLV directly strengthens the local economy.
Opening timeline
The new Lee Business School building is expected to open in 2029.
